Fire Alarm Safety

We were asked to support a client who was experiencing a high number fire alarm activations caused by shower steam, hairdryers and over enthusiastic use of aerosols in their newly opened hotel in central London. This is quite common, particularly in hotels with small rooms and it led to regular unnecessary evacuations from the hotel and negative feedback. We found that the fire alarm had been programmed in single stage such that any activation caused the alarm to sound. On review of the approved fire strategy and staffing levels we were happy to advise on a two-stage alarm with an enforced delay to provide a short investigation time.
